SAERTEX multiCom Fiberglass Liner
Corrosion Resistant Fiberglass
SAERTEX® Liner is factory impregnated with NPG- Polyester or Vinylester resin and pre-pregnated with a resin thickening process. It is wrapped in a light proof foil and placed in a sturdy transport box equipped with temperature sensors. The storage time for the impregnated material is approximately 5 weeks at 700 F. The liner (shown here) was shipped from Germany to a job site in British Columbia by boat.
Here, on the job site, a pulling manifold is mounted in the end and the liner is winched in place. (Longitudinal reinforcements are used to protect against stretch). When the pulling manifold enters the destination manhole, the length is adjusted and an air/steam manifold is mounted in the entry end. The pulling manifold is mounted with an exhaust hose and valve. Both liner ends are equipped with external temperature sensors.
Then, the liner is inflated with air to a tight fit against the host pipe. (The design allows a 10% radial stretch so it will easily conform). Steam is added to the airflow according to the manufacturer's specifications. When sufficient temperature has been reached to harden the resin, the air is stopped. A unique second curing step is applied with 2300 F. steam. This process heightens the resin’s strength and corrosion resistance to its full capacity. When the ends are cut off and the inside foil removed, the job is complete.
Test results:
Long term Modulus of Elasticity:
1,450,000 Psi.
Long term Strain Corrosion:
None
Water absorption:
0.44 %
(Hamburg Test)
No loss of material by 50 passes with a
hydraulic cleaner while
adding sharp grained sand.

Flow characteristics of the relined pipe is better than the original pipe due to the extremely smooth inner surface.
